Snow Day

The second storm of the decade rolled in on Friday. It came around noon so the kids still made it to school and mom still made it to yoga. The other fortunate thing was that Jim was able to catch a flight out of Boston a day early so he wouldn't get stuck if the storm hit there as well. We just hunkered down for a quiet day at home. It was actually quite nice because the sky cleared and most of the neighbors were out clearing driveways, so we did a fair amount of visiting. We decided to walk over to a friends' house while Jim took the snowblower on a second pass over the driveway and sidewalks. Annalise decided she wanted to slide and Evie pulled her half way there.
I love this picture of Annalise. I think she looks a lot like Evie at this age. Probably because she is wearing all of Evie's old stuff. The snow was up to her knees and she kept losing her mittens, but she stayed outside a lot longer than I thought she would.

The snow was wet and heavy. Perfect for the snowblower. I don't think we lost too many branches. We were going to clean off the shrubs, but since they are being removed for new landscaping this spring, we decided that mother nature may help us remove some branches. The snowman was made by Jim and Evie on Friday night. When we woke on Saturday morning, all of their tracks, as well as the snowball tracks were covered with more snow. I think we probably got around 6-7 inches.

Annalise was excited that she is growing and is almost as tall as the snowman.

It was windy too and we got this big drift off the garage roof. Yes, those are our Christmas lights still up there along the roofline. The official word on that is "we are waiting for it to warm up"

Evie always has a good time in the snow. She normally comes in covered head to toe, and her pant legs and shirt sleeves are wet too.

Annalise plays with our neighbor/future babysitter. Be nice to Amy!

When we visited our friends this morning, I was trying to help her out by shoveling out the snow that was in front of her mailbox. I felt a little twinge in my back, but didn't think much of it. When we were at the Dells,my back was a little sore, but I thought it was because of riding in the car and hauling Annalise in and out of tubes. Anyway, I was a little sore this morning, but it didn't stop me from going outside. On our walk home, though, each step got more and more painful. It was all I could do to drop my coat at the door and then lay down on the family room floor. I put a call into Aunt Becky and she confirmed that was I was feeling was probably a back spasm and I should lay flat for the rest of the day.

So this is how I spent the rest of a beautiful, sunny Saturday. The girls came in and kept me company while I watched TV and made phone calls to keep busy. While I am stuck on my back, I reflected that when you put junk in your body, you feel bad. Last weekend, I had lots of junk and now I can't walk. So no more Pringles or little chocolate donuts from here on out. Lentils and porriage fromher on out. Hopefully, all this laying around will make my back feel better before my sweet Seibert kin come into town tomorrow, because it's sure not helping to get the bathrooms clean.
