Our first fire

Since the hot tub died last fall when it sprang a major leak, we have been trying to decide what to do on our giant red deck. Hot tub replacement really isn't an option since we are going to have to pay for college someday (Sorry Evie, you can't go to Harvard. We bought a hot tub in 2010. You will have to go to cake decorating school at Michael's Craft store instead.)
So we patched up the hole in the deck last fall and this spring, we bought a much less expensive fire pit to use this summer.
After a few tries with the wet logs, Jim managed to get the fire going. He can still earn his firestarting badge.
We had dessert over the fire. Guess we aren't going to leave dad in charge of the marshmallows.
This little girl is shaped like a marshmallow--and she is eating a tasty smore.
After a few tries, he managed to make a perfectly toasted and tasty marshmallow.
It's best to eat them straight from the fire. Tastes like Pokagon.
Grandma gives the girls a few more before bedtime.
Grandma and Annalise share a cuddle before bedtime.
Evie catches her marshmallow before it hits the deck.
What a dirty face!!! But a great way to spend the evening.
