At the Park
We met up with the Lupke boys for a picnic and some fun at a nearby park. Here are the babies confined to their strollers. As long as someone kept the fruit puffs coming, they were pretty happy.
Linky eating al fresco.
Annalise spent 95% of our time at the park in the stroller. Good thing she didn't mind too much.
This particular park had a "splash park" for the kids to run around in. Just like at home, but none of the water made it onto the grass.
Mike with his crazy hat.
After they got dried off, Mike and Evie played for a while. We knew they were getting tired when they just sat next to each other and no one was talking.
Here are the Lupke Men and the Taller Women. Future prom dates.

The Indy 500
We made it to our seats just in time to see the beginning of the 91st Indy 500. It was really loud.
This is the pace car. We were told that Patrick Dempsey was driving it. Do you really think they let a Movie star drive it all the time or just on the parade lap? By they way, we were in the second row from the track. Probably the greatest driver in the whole Race, Sam. We were cheering for him pretty hard. We are convinced that if it didn't rain, Sam would have won again this year. He had a couple serious set backs, but was always able to fight back to the front. He finished 4th.
Mom and Dad (Grandma and Grandpa) enjoying a snack during the race. Next year, we will bring less junk and more beer and food.
Jenni and Jim at the race. This was before we all got drenched, twice. Good thing we had ponchos to keep our bodies dry.
This was the restart. It was a great race and we are deciding which tickets to buy next year.
The girls were in loving hands with the Bray Family all day. We can only imagine the fun that they had.

Race Fever!
We are all getting excited for "The Race" as it is known in our house. We talk about it a lot but we don't think Evie has any idea what a race is. All she knows is that mom and dad are going with Grandma and Grandpa and that there will be fighter jets flying over our house (so the neighbors say). Mom did some shopping for some snacks today and things got a little out of hand when the groceries got unloaded.Dad--carb loading.
Linky--doesn't know what to think
Mom shows Linky how to wear the hat. You are going to have to get better at this once you hit college, Annalise.
Evie wears the box as a mask.

Yes, we know that Dale Jr. is on the box and he drives NASCAR, but we needed something AMERICAN to drink at the greatest spectical in racing.

Trip to the Indy Zoo
Today we went to the Indy Zoo with our friends, the Hedricks--Steph, Elizabeth, Ava, and Ana. It was a women's only day. While at the zoo, we fed the giraffes. This is Elizabeth and Ava feeding the giraffe.
This is Evie feeding the giraffe. She had no fear at all. Incidently, the giraffe feeding was at 11:00 am, the same time as the "tomato" sirens. So now, when the sirens sound, it's a reminder to feed the giraffes.
Annalise doesn't get to feed the giraffe. Is disappointed and unamused.
Since our dishwasher is leaking water (due to a leaky gasket), dad took us out to dinner so mom didn't have a lot of dishes to do. We went to a place called Shaprio's Deli. Dad had a ruben with about a pound of corned beef, mom had bagels and lox, Evie had a crossant with turkey and cheese. Annalise ate a little bit of everyone's dinner including part of dad's potato Latke and some frosting off the black forest cake we had for dessert. All of our bellies were full when we came home
Evie shows off her belly and collar bones.
Annalise wins the big belly award. Corned Beef, Salmon, turkey, and frosting really fill a girl up. Her belly button changed from an innie to an outie.

Don't eat the stick!
Annalise enjoyed a popsicle this evening on the deck. She wasn't too sure about it at first but then got the hang of it really quickly. Here's the getting messy picture
Evie is an old pro at eating popsicles.
This is the unhappy baby when the popsicle was all gone.
Evie demonstrates the cardinal rule of popsicles--Don't eat the stick!

A Bike Ride
It was a nice afternoon today and after our attempts at getting the girls to take an afternoon nap (it didn't work), we hitched up the Burley bike trailer and set out to explore the Monon Trail.Evie promises to be nice to her sister. Yes, Uncle Kevin, we know they aren't wearing helmets. Linky's is being used by Hank and we were fearing Evie would injury Linky with hers so it was just sun hats today.
Here comes Annalise's sun hat as Evie helps her to drink some water.

We found the Monon trail and rode about 9 miles (we think). Annalise fell asleep and missed out on the ice cream stop. She actually slept all the way back home too. After the ice cream, Evie zonked out on the way home. Here are our post ride pictures:
Evie finishing her afternoon siesta
Annalise feeling refreshed after her nap in the trailer. We didn't tell her about the ice cream, that's why she looks so happy. She doesn't know what she missed.

We were trying to be quiet as Evie slept. This picture is similar to one we took with evie, but she was crying. I will try to find it to post it sometime.
Annalise is still getting used to the grass. She likes to examine it blade by blade.
Evie is still asleep in the Burley. Look at that big belly hanging out. Either she needs to cut back on the ice cream or mom needs to go shopping for new clothes.
Linky and Dad sure had fun riding bike.

Annalise update
Try as we might, we can't get a good look at that new tooth. It's in there, trust us. Mom goes in with her finger to feel for the next one and she often gets bit Attempt one of getting the picture...maybe if we go in closer...
She's hiding it with her bologna-like (dad's description) tounge.
Just generally making a mess as she eats. Notice that she is feeding herself. We quit the baby food a couple of days ago because she wouldn't let us hold the spoon anymore. She seems to get enough into her stomache to satisfy herself (or she is absorbing it through her legs...you should see under the high chair tray!) . She really enjoys peaches, carrots, and shredded cheese
She is also very good at standing now. She can't quite pull herself up, but she tries. No full out crawling yet, but she is working on that too.
She's just a pretty happy baby.

hanging around
After the busy week at Grandma and Grandpa's, we are just spending the week hanging around home. Evie is becoming quite the chef. As inspired by her "High 5" magazine, she made a dog fruit salad. We made another one tonight for dessert after dinner.
A funny Evie mispronunciation--tornado siren= tomato sign. Now that we have moved to a more tornado prone part of the country, they test their sirens every week. She is very concerned and has lots of questions about the tomato sign. We assured her that it is just a way to tell people to go inside so a tree branch doesn't fall on their heads. This seemed to satisfy her for a while.
Two Bathing beauties.
They had lots of fun in the tub together.

Happy Mother's Day
It was a positively beautiful day today! We started the day with sleeping in until 7 am!! What a treat for mom and dad! Then, after some quiche, a trip to church (and Kroger for donuts for all the good behavior), we played outside in the yard. It was only 70 degrees, but Evie thought it was warm enough for some summer activity. Annalise says "Hey Evie, you lost a sock!"
Don't need socks when you are running through the sprinkler. Despite our best efforts to convince her this was a bad idea, she really wanted to do it. Since the lawn was looking a little dry, we just suited her up for some ice cold sprinkler running.
Jim plays in the sprinkler too.
Evie's attempt at jumping over the sprinkler.
Annalise and mom hang out under the tree and safely off the itchy and prickly grass.
